# WhatsApp number disconnected

> Recover when a connected WhatsApp number drops offline.

A disconnect means messages stop arriving on that number until you reconnect. Clapvo shows a banner across the layout the moment it happens.

## Common causes

* The phone lost internet (Wi-Fi off, mobile data interrupted, airplane mode)
* The phone was off or in deep sleep too long
* Someone manually unlinked the device from inside WhatsApp on the phone
* The WhatsApp account was banned or restricted by Meta

## Steps to fix

<Steps>
  <Step title="Confirm the phone is online">
    Make sure WhatsApp itself works on the phone.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check Linked Devices on the phone">
    In WhatsApp, open **Settings -> Linked Devices**. If Clapvo is missing, the device was unlinked.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Reconnect from Clapvo">
    Open **Connections**, find the disconnected number, and click **Reconnect**. Scan the new QR. See [Reconnect a number](/docs/product/connections/reconnect-number).
  </Step>

  <Step title="If the WhatsApp account is banned">
    You will need to resolve the ban with WhatsApp before reconnecting. Contact [Clapvo support](/docs/support/contact-support) for guidance.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## How to prevent it

* Keep the phone plugged in and on Wi-Fi when possible.
* Do not let the device fall into very long deep-sleep states.
* Avoid any behavior that could trigger a WhatsApp ban (sudden bulk sends from a new number, repeated identical messages without using [randomize message](/docs/product/campaigns/randomize-message)).
