# Add a contact

> Create a new customer contact record.

Contacts is your customer database. Add records here so you can target them in campaigns and see context inside chats.

## Before you start

* The contact name and phone number (with country code)

## Steps

  <Step title="Open Contacts">
    Navigate to the contacts module.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Add contact">
    Open the new contact form.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Fill the form">
    Enter name, phone number, and any other available fields.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add tags">
    Tag the contact so you can target them later (optional).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    The contact appears in your database.
  </Step>

## Tips

* Always include the country code on phone numbers - this is what WhatsApp uses to route messages.
* Use [tags](/docs/product/settings/tags) to group contacts by source, segment, or campaign.
