# Reconnect a disconnected number

> Bring a disconnected WhatsApp number back online.

Numbers can drop offline if the phone loses internet, the WhatsApp account is unlinked, or the device sleeps for a long time. Reconnecting takes about a minute.

## Before you start

* Identified which connection is offline (the connections list and the layout banner both show it)
* The phone with that WhatsApp number, online and unlocked

## Steps

    Navigate to the connections module.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find the disconnected number">
    It is marked with a disconnected status.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Reconnect">
    A new QR appears.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Scan with WhatsApp">
    Same flow as initial pairing - **Settings** -> **Linked Devices** -> **Link a Device**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for confirmation">
    Status flips back to connected.
  </Step>

## Tips

* Most disconnects come from the phone losing internet or someone manually unlinking the device in WhatsApp.
* Until the number is reconnected, any chats that arrive on it are not visible in the inbox.
